Specialty Infusions

An Infusion is a form of delivery of medications intravenously through a needle or catheter performed in a clinical or home setting most often by a Registered Nurse. Specialty Infusion is a term that is used to describe the delivery of a wide spectrum of specialized medication utilizing a higher level of infusion services. While these terms have been somewhat inter-changeable, advances in medications and technical advances in the delivery of these medications have resulted in a greater disparity in the terms “infusion” and “specialty infusion”.

Until the 1980’s, infusions we administered almost entirely at inpatient clinical settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes and doctors’ offices. The drawbacks to this archaic method of infusions included: significantly higher costs, inconvenience and interruptions to the patient’s normal daily activities, including work or school, and greater exposure risk to the patient. These drawbacks were significant in that they added to the overall costs, compromised the patient’s well-being by adding burdens on an already ill patient and further stressed the healthcare system.

In the late 1980’s, Care Team gained our State licensure as a Home Health Agency. Within a few years, we became a predominant provider of healthcare services and personnel, including: private duty home care, nursing home staffing, doctors’ office and medical clinic staffing, industrial first aide and hospital staffing, including: ER, CCU, ICU, CSU, pediatrics and many other specialties. Before long, Care Team began providing infusions in the home and soon after became a significant provider of in-home infusion therapies. With several hundred nurses working for Care Team at that time, we chose to be at the fore-front of this new and growing industry. Our service area for home infusion services included a three (3) County area in the Tampa Bay Area coordinated thru our Tampa Office by our Directors of Nursing and our team of specialty infusion nurses (RN).

Over the past twenty-five years, Care Team’s Specialty Infusion division has grown significantly putting us at or near the top in the delivery of home specialty infusions throughout West-Central Florida. We are now licensed to provide specialty infusion services in an eleven (11) county area of West-Central Florida with plans for continued growth. Our initially assisting one (1) local pharmacy in the early 1990’s has increased to Care Team currently assisting dozens of local, State, National and Global pharmaceutical companies on a multiple-times a day basis.

Our commitment to this area of specialty medicine has been a significant contributing factor to the overall success of these services in our geographic area. Thanks to Care Team’s role in specialty infusions, thousands of patients and their families have benefitted in untold ways over the past quarter century.

If you or a loved one is in need of specialty infusion services or are unhappy with your current provider, please contact one of Care Team’s offices today and ask to speak with an infusion nurse. We are happy to assist in the coordination of your services.

We’d like for you to consider Care Team as your specialty infusion nursing service. You may call your physician, your pharmacy or preferably call us first and ask to speak with a Care Team Director of Nursing. Be sure to mention you would like for Care Team to be your provider of in-home specialty infusion services.
