Frequently Asked Questions
A licensed practical nurse (LPN) has several responsibilities including: taking and monitoring patient vital signs, assisting patients with eating, dressing, and bathing, administering mediation, communicating changes in patient behavior or health status to RNs, Drs, and family members, maintaining accurate patient records, drawing blood for routine testing, and administering injections SubQ and IM under the direction of an RN or DR.
The hourly rate for an LPN ranges from $27 to $40 depending on the service line. The average hourly rate for LPNs in Florida is $29.23.
Students interested in becoming LPNs must first enter an accredited LPN program. These programs take 1-2 years to complete. After graduation from one of these programs interested candidates must pass the NCLEX-PN exam.
LPNs focus on task-oriented duties under the supervision of an RN. RNs take on broader responsibilities including critical thinking and strategic healthcare management.
